An armed, masked gunman robbed the Dollar General in Batson Sunday night, reportedly ordering customers to the ground while demanding the store clerk hand over cash from the register.

The robbery occurred around 9:45 p.m., just minutes before the store, located at 42685 SH 105 in Batson, was set to close, according to witnesses at the scene. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the gunman ran from the store.

"He basically walked in out of the shadows and fled into the shadows," said Major Dennis Allen of the Hardin County Sheriff's Office.

Though the gunman was wearing a ski mask, witnesses told deputies that the gunman is a white male, possibly middle aged, with a slim to medium build.

According to Allen, the Hardin County Sheriff's Office is looking into other robberies in neighboring counties to check for similarities and suspect descriptions.

Anyone with information should contact the Hardin County Sheriff's Office at 409-246-5100.
