Car split in two after hitting bus stop in Whitworth
An uninsured driver has been sentenced to just six months in jail and given an 18-month road ban, despite splitting a Ford Focus in two after crashing into a bus shelter.
Andrew Clegg (DOB 01/06/1983), of Eastgate, Whitworth, appeared at Burnley Magistrates’ Court on 16 January where he admitted dangerous driving on Market Street, near Oakenshaw Avenue, Whitworth on 12 November.
The collision split the car in two, and demolished the bus shelter, which is yet to be replaced.
In addition to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, Clegg was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs.
He was also disqualified from driving for 18-months and until an extended test has been passed.
